The soldered joints will be fracture points due to vibration, better to use an uninsulated butt connector and heatshrink over.

They aren't going to move. Potted in pu sealant in a tube.
When we used to manufacture industrial joysticks the only way we could prevent wire fracture was to use bare copper braided wire wrapped around a rivet before setting them. Never had a failure. Soldered or crimped wouldn't last long.

A wry smile for me on this one. An acquaintance who visits occasionally will suggest the other way of doing what I'm doing or thinking of doing is far better. Over the years I've tested this and the other way is always better.

Crimps or soldering. Loctite or nylocs. Doesn't matter, the other way is better, and that's how he'd do it if he ever actually did it.

It use to really grate, now it's just amusing sport listening to edge case justifications and how he knew a bloke...

When I replaced the lights I couldn't find any LED lights except with quite short integral cables. That means either a junction box right next to each light, or inline cable to cable joins. Even one metre cables would allow just one junction box in the middle at the back.

I have extended the cables. Ran them through plastic conduit. The join is inside the pipe and sealed with a quality pu sealant.

Do you find/expect any problems with the PU rotting/dissolving the cable insulation?

I can't remember the chemistry involved, but I'm sure there was an issue with PU foam affecting certain types of cable?

The plasticiser leaches out of the cable when in contact with foams but it tends to be EPS/XPS foams that are problematic. I'd expect the trailer to have had a couple of re-wires in the timescale for the issue to occur.

It is a pu sealant. When it goes off it is stable so I doubt it would cause problems. Similar to sikaflex.
