To me, it seems a very strange business model.
I would imagine a large proportion of there customer base must wait till they have a discount code before they make a purchase.
I only shop without one in an emergency as often there regular price is not competitive.
In the past, i have spoken to a local store manager and they say they can not discount orders.

Why not issue a set quantity of discount vouchers to registered customers on a yearly basis to be used as and when required, and price match online and local competitors throughout the year.

Shareholders don't like to see peaks and troughs in a P&L, its an established business so it will be easy to predict when those troughs will occur based on historical data. Its often handy to encourage sales to fill in the holes using a discount scheme.

Some of the bigger machine marts have a returns section. You can't use the vat free voucher for them but there are some good bargains to be had. Some of the stuff is rubbish but some are catalogue returns that have never been used.
