Hi all, I have been asked to make a rear step to replace the old one on an ldv van. The old one is rotten in several places so past repairing. it has a tubular frame of around 35mm and is at a guess around 2 - 3 mm thick, what would you recomend toreplace, is square tube any difference in strength (I donthave a tube bender so it would be easier to cut and weld square tube rather than try and bend round ), what thickness would you use, it will take a fair pounding lugging band gear in and out a fair bit and what thickness sheet for the foot plate ??

I would use 40mm square it would be easier to get the corners right etc and easily as strong and 3mm for the foot plate.

Yep, 40mm box with 3mm footplate.

Having spent a fair bit of time lugging backline about go for chequer plate on the footplate. Helps reduce slipping when loading.
