Steel prices fluctuate constantly.
Although they generally only go upwards long-term.
Currently, something like £30-35 a meter if you bought a single 6m length as a Joe Public.
I'd think that size (especially galvanised) might be a little bit specialised to sell for new price though. Unless you have enough of it to frame up a barn with and you can find somebody who wants to build a barn.
You'll get the highest price for it by chopping it down into short lengths and selling it on ebay for people who just want an odd bit to make a bracket or a couple of short lengths for a project.
They will be happy to pay well in excess of the per/m new price but it's a time consuming way of shifting it.
I tend to pass on unwanted steel at a price per kg as it seems like the stuff that is the most expensive new is the least desirable second-hand. At a £/kg price people know that they can get most of that back in scrap if they never use it. Or make a profit in scrap if they hold it for long enough!
I've also got various lengths of exotic stuff that was £000's per meter. That's the hardest stuff to shift as hobby people don't really have a use that justifies paying even 20% of new price and the big guys that do use it don't want it as it's not got the material certificates etc..
Yours sounds like the sort of size that would be good for the legs/frame for a sturdy work bench or the base of a plasma table etc so enough of it to make something useful should be worth £100 to somebody I would think?

You are right but I would have it, if I had a use for it. The holes will be a problem for most. For what he would get for it, I would keep it for a rainy day. being galv, it can even stay outside !Anything Galvanised is pretty useless as fabrication metal...very hard to clean and weld safely, makes the workshop look like November the 5th

True but I wouldn't part with a section like that for scrap value, it would go in the curing rack until I found a use for it.
A mate gave me this lot from his offcut pile, this was going in the scrap.
We get oddball jobs that can be achieved using "offcuts".
