Do any of the skilled welders out there feel able to make me a new vacuum tank? Snowcat maybe? (as you aren't too far from me I think).
I have a small tank (16.5" high x 12" diam) tank but need a larger one. I don't trust my welding to make a neat and efficient tank - it need to absolutely airtight and strong enough to withstand a vacuum of 29" of mercury. The lid is 20mm clear perspex (which I have) which simply sits on top of a rubber seal set into the top rim - the vacuum holds it in place. The tank needs an outlet pipe to take a T pipe, onto this must be fittings for two ball valves, one to let the air back in, one which goes to the vac pump via 25mm i.d. reinforced tubing and in the middle a fitting to take the pressure gauge (which I also have).
I also have an aluminium beer barrel which a friend of mine tried to convert into a tank but lacked the necessary skill/equipment to fix an airtight rim to the top. This could be used if anyone feels up to tigging a suitable rim to it (or a new barrel would be suitable size-wise) - it would need a recess machining into the rim for the rubber seal to sit into.
If anyone is interested I can post some pics of my existing tank and more details of dimensions of the tank and fittings.
