Hey guys dont post much in this section.
Quick question how do u vertical up with a mig ive got most position fairly easy but going up is difficult is it the same as mma welding is it to with wire speed
Lke I said before I dont do much mig but last two days v up would of saved me much greif

Vetical up is slow, so we always turn the job over wherever possible.

Google christmas tree weave to find out the theory behing vertical up welding. Then practice. Lots.

Cheers for that mate the steel im welding is horrifying but like I said would of been lot esier if I could of just ved up to be honest partly my fult I dont mig weld much anymore or really weld anything anymore should really practice more

v up mig is one position i always try to avoid. I would have stick welded it. Much prefer v up mma to mig, even if it needed root and cap

It would be nice to mma weld it problem its its thin in parts so blows holes in it

Its only a skip, not a bridge, make life easy for yourself and run them vertical down, Its a very common and accepted practice on thinner materials,

didn't realise it wad that thin, v down is fine. Don't get quite as much penetration but just knock the amps up a bit if needed

cheers for that guys i thought everything had to be welded v up as its a stronger penetration but as long as i can get away with v down then i will :-D cheers again guys

Personally i wouldn't weld a skip vertical down. 6mm plate? Too thick for vertical down IMO, even with a gap.
Not a critical application, but tell that to the bloke who has to clean up after the bottom drops out of it when its being lifted.

Easier just to keep flipping it so your always welding downhand?

I tend not to do any vertical down on anything thicker than about 3mm, unless its just a seal weld.

When you get the settings right, vertical up can be quite nice, especially on thicker material with no chance of burn through.
But as Paul has mentioned, its pretty slow going. I tend to turn most things and weld in the flat when possible.
