v and a museum, science museum, didnt make the history museum...

On bank holiday monday we decided to take my partners daughter and her bf to the science museum and the history museum whilst we went to the Victoria and Albert museum.

Im gonna start by saying dont go to all three. Screaming kids ignorant foreigners that barge past you with no manners and the temperatures that rival mars!!!

We started in the science museum and i was stunned by people touching/mauling stevensons rocket. Surely that cant be the original one?!?

Very quickly peoples attitudes got to me so we went out for some air and looked at the que to get into the history museum... we didnt go for my suggestion which was a pub whilst the kids bumbled around.

So then onto the V and A, after hours of looking at medieval stuff that my partner likes I stumbled onto the ironwork floor. I can honestly say there was some seriously beautiful pieces of workmanship there from amazingly put together gates to a traditional rose that really got my juices going

All in all a hot sweaty day. My favorite part being the cockerel and a traditionally made bench. I will pop a picture up later of the cockerel

Science museum is best seen on a rainy mid week day in normal term time. It's deserted and you can walk around undisturbed by precious minded kids with arrogant condescending parents !! Another place I can recommend, which will be a surprise to some, is the Tower Of London, seriously interesting place, although the armoury has now unfortunately been moved. I first went with a GF, as she wanted to see the crown jewels, the thought of which filled me with dread. But it was a revelation, incredibly impressive with a tactile sense of history about them.

thats the only reason you phrase it like that.... it did put a massive smile on my face. Simple things eh?!

Yeah I was impressed with the ironwork at the V&A.

Took loads of pictures of bits of trellis etc. Wife & kids thought I was mad.

Science museum - I only really liked the steam engines on the ground floor.

We went in the Natural History Museum last year, enjoyed it but it was like being in Ikea (pushed along in one big queue)
Incidentally Ive never been to Ikea but ive been told whats its like.....which is partly why ive never been.

Thats a pity, I always enjoyed mooching around the aviation stuff, model engines, cars, bikes, etc, etc.

Similar situation in Birmingham when they moved the science museum to Millenium Point, a lot of exhibits didn't make it and it's now full of screaming kids pressing "interactive" buttons.

Not been to the Science or Natural History museums since I was a kid.
Went to the V&A last year, I ended up with jaw ache, i have never yawned so much.
Dont get me wrong, there is some fantastic stuff in there, but when you are forced to look at room after room of items you have absolutely no interest in, it gets tedious.

V&A was quite peaceful, it was a random Saturday in November.

Tend to avoid everywhere bar my house on most bank holidays.

Went to the Science museum a couple of months ago because they were advertising robots being there. We turned up and there wasn't any robots at all.
However enjoyed the museum - great place to go. You don't need to have kids with you and it's free (or a donation).

Worth a visit if your in the area yes. Wide range of stuff, new and old. Theres also an aerial walkway over their refurbishment workshops, including whatever project they are in the middle of at the time.
Free admission as well.

yes was there last week 3d visit and its free if going for the day theres river trips and the old town with fortress walls and keeps all within walking distance. york minsters a rip off though 19 quid each 2 get in i passed on that

There is a charge to get into York Minster ? Thats outrageous !! I used to live up in North Yorkshire and the Minster was just like any other church, just walk in ! No way would I pay to see it though !
The Science Museum in Brum was brilliant before it moved but now the charge to get in is totally obscene, I worked it out once for a family of 4 and from memory it came to about £100 !!!

I know from friends that visited the national motorcycle museum in birmingham the chief complaint was everything was static and nothing was running , a sterile experience , is the rail museum the same or would they have anything steamed up ?
Did you visit dick cravens place just outside york brightspark ?

They do have steaming days at the National Rail Museum, you would have to check their website.
I agree about the National Motorcycle Museum, boring, especially after 1 visit, it just never seems to change.
