UV burn.... Or is it?

I've actually had some minor UV welding sunburn through trousers before, which surprised me.
But to be fair they were that thin and worn they would make compo's look like Sunday best, so perhaps it shouldn't have been that surprising in hindsight.

Only other time is when being a bit naughty and catching it on bare forearms when wearing a T shirt.
Wouldn't have thought it should have been a problem as it sounds like you were covered up.

I think I had it when I was a wee boy, but I'm sure it can develop when your older.

When you develop the rash did it peel when it cleared up?

It hasn't blistered at all, so I'd imagine if it was indeed UV burn it would have blistered, especially with how red and angry it was ,

It was many years ago but from memory I was whisked back to the doctors who told me that I was allergic and gave me a non-penicillin antibiotic. can't remember the rash hanging around which was probably due to quickly stopping taking the tablets. Sounds like you might have taken a lot more. Worth getting the doctors to check it out.

I went to my GP today, she said it's definitely a penecillin reaction and not from UV exposure. Glad I asked on here so I could make a decision on getting it looked into, thanks again for everyone's input.

Get a physical appointment with your doctor but also get numerous photos in bright light to show to them by email ..
My daughter is nearly 20 got an infection in her rh index finger two months ago was hospitalised VSI after a violent reaction to penicillin & a hormone cream . She is still having problems . Her skin is coming off in sloths like bad sunburn making her much more likely to get a secondary infection .

I was thankful enough to get a physical appointment yesterday, I was not seeking medical advice from a forum, but knew there are alot of highly experienced welders on here who would have seen something similar from welding and if not, would allow me the information so i could push for a drug reaction diagnosis.

The first Dr in A and E thought it was indeed UV burn and told me to go home and put E45 cream on.

The 2nd Dr said it looked like UV burn too, but said it was more likely to be a drug reaction.

Yesterday , when I went to my GP, after the rash had calmed down, they could then confirm it was definitely a drug reaction

That sounds a terrible reaction that your daughter has had and hope she is able to recover soon.

since you went to A & E it would be worth making sure your GP updates your medical records so that they don't give it to you in the future.
