Using a ?what? wheel/brakedisk as a welding steady

Just watching this video of a guy who sorted out his plasma cutter and I realised that he had a great workpiece holder / platform that would work for welding and some plasma cutting. A nice big, thick spark catcher with a thick platform round it...

What is that? Is it an old brakedisk welded to a small wheel? Or...?

Its a rear brake disc. A bmw one i'd say

Think I was watching the same video a little while ago, had problems turned out to be air hose clamp?

I thought he was also cutting through the disk at one time.

Looking at a cheap Ebay cut40 hence watching vids like that.

i often thought of making a small welding bench with the top mounted on the rear hub of a car with the handbrake and foot brake attached to the bench so you could turn the top as you welded and lock it when wou wanted

its just sitting on the ground wheel side down its not attached to anything

No its just the disc on its own

I've used a hub with a disk fitted back to front to make a rotating table for blasting wheels. Works a treat.

They could use tension springs to apply the pressure to ball (washing machine drum suspension springs would be ideal) and a foot-operated lever to release the tension.

Get a rear with the handbrake - it will rotate due to the blast of air, but too fast to be able to blast the coating off.

the Vectra has a hub and disc in one, they have shoes for the handbrake and disc for footbrake it will save buying 2

TBH, I may just turn up at my garage with the pic above and ask "can I have one of these?"

The last service they did, my truck was peeing oil so after a week I opened the bonnet- they hadn't put the dipstick (aptly named) back in so it had spurted 5L of oil all over the engine bay.
So they owe me...

I used used the base of an small bench drill as an adjustable base, seemed a better idea to keep it rather than throwing it away

Possibly replace the jack with a big spring, although I don't see how it's a waste of a jack because you can pick up a used one of eBay for £20ish. Waste of a bowling ball however.
