Can someone advise the correct way to use a DRO on my lathe? At the moment, I measure the stock I'm using, kiss of with the tool I have chosen, then punch the measured value in as a new base for that axis, then machine away to the numbers. This brings me close and I take a reading with a micrometer when I'm close, then take the required numbers off to get to my target.
My DRO has a tool database, I assume I would set each tool up in its holder and zero this out on the centre line of the lathe, then the numbers would be spot on and I could just pick the tool number, throw the stock in the chuck and go on the numbers, omitting the measure, touch off and set a new base value steps.
How do I go about setting my tools dead on centre line and program this in?
