thats slightly annoying, will have to find a new mot guy, mine only does class 4 which is a shame as he is the only guy ive found that can be trusted over the last few years and wont fail a car over something petty to try and get an over-inflated amount of cash out of you for work being done

well ive been on to flux and haggerty, flux seem vey competitive and have slightly tipped me towards a ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi, opposed to the 5.9 cummins i was oiginally interested in...the v8 is actually cheaper to insure than my 2.2d(mondeo engined) x type...the chevy silverado is only maginally more expensive to insure though so looks like its now eithe a hemi or a duramax.

second question, what MOT class would either of these fall under?

Interesting, as you indicated up above looking for a Dodge Ram truck with a Cummins, I figured at least the 2500 (3/4 ton) model.
I have never seen a 1500 with a diesel of any kind in it.

The 1500 is geared toward the car or SUV crowd, axles are pretty light, etc.

The 2500 get's you into the full floater rear axles, and IIRC the front axle is also a straight one, albeit with coil over suspension now,
Heavier frame, 8 bolt rims, 16" load range "E" tires, etc.

Chevy duramax also the 3/4 ton model only, but as of late I hear Chevy offers the 1/2 ton with a smaller Duramax engine.

sorry, i sould have been clearer, it was intially a 2500 i was looking at with the cummins, but after doing a fair few quotes now the 1500 with a hemi is a bit cheaper to buy and insure, and seems easier to get bits for.

the duramax would effectively be a 1500 sized truck too.

i only initially looked at the 2500 ram as i like the cummins engines. ive had a few in various recovery trucks and accross various brands such as a 3.9 tector that is just a cummins in drag, a few paccar and a 14 litre 500hp cummins in a foden/daf wrecker. all were good strong engines apart from the injector issues in my iveco with the 3.9, but that was a lot to do with the previous owner bodging everything he tried to fix.

i dont really tow much, occasionaly a caravan maybe 100 miles a go, sometimes a mate will ask me to drag a car somewhere. ive been using his x5 for that as my jag hasnt got a tow bar and i think a 1500kg towing capacity which isnt enough anyway.

the only 2 real reasons for wanting one is firstly, i like them and secondly, ive driven almost every available uk spec pick up and there just isnt any space in them. borrowed a mates ranger last summer to take a caravan down to cornwall and i was massively underwhelmed with it. only 2 years old and it was gutless, virtaully no spcae in it for someone my size (5'11", wide shoulders and thick legs) and i couldnt get comfy in it...roll on to just before xmas and a guy i was working with took us for food in his f150...even sat in the back i had plenty of space and the drive comfrot was far better.

UK parking spots about about equivalent to US "compact" spots . . . my Challenger fills them side to side, and overhangs the front if the back bumper (or tow bar) is on the line at the rear.

If its a "modern" truck - do some research on the gen3 Hemi and listen to it very carefully. The "hemi-tick" can be passed off as an exhaust leak . . . or a follower has failed and it's currently eating the cam. If it's one that shuts off half the cylinders at cruise for fuel economy, then that is thought to exacerbate it.

that doenst bother me...i used to work for b&q and could always find a way to fit a 26t hiab in the car park. i have no issues taking more than 1 space, the same as a sprinter van would need to. its not my fault the spaces arent suitable for every vehicle and merely designed to cram as many people as possible into a store. i find a lot of places i go lately are tight even for the jag. tesco is a good example, if i cant find a child space, i usually struggle to get my daughter out becasue of how narrow the newly painted spaces have become

im looking at what i would consider to be older vehicles, wouldnt call them modern by any standards, around a 2005 model. dont what gen engine that would be.

that said, the one i was looking at is now out as ive just realised its a 2wd and that just wont do...seems a bit odd to have a truck that size adn weight but not have 4wd...

no, thats just my phones way of screwing with me. i have issues with my fingers and typing on my phone genreally doesnt work well anymore and im too lazy to read anything back before hitting post.

it was meant to say daily. as in my only vehicle. i havent got space to store more than 1 vehicle anymore sadly.
