upvc door lock issue

im beyond confused on how the retaining screw for my lock is suppose to go in, as I had to replace the barrel (used door for my workshop and they had no key)
basically, to fully lock the door you have to lift the handle first, but if you lift the handle the retaining screw hole is blocked (pics are with the door handle down then up, you can see it blocks off the hole)

so if I insert the screw I cant put the handle up to lock it using the key,

The retaining screw on the old one had no head on it, im not even sure how it was in there, had to hacksaw through it in the keyhole to get the thing out and break the old lock.

Very odd. The retaining screw provides additional security, perhaps instead of a screw you could use a long allen grub screw?

From the fact that the plate isn't countersunk over that hole, I'd think it's meant to be a grub screw of some type too.

On a lot of normal mortice locks, there's a cover plate over the lock front, but if there's a moving part behind the front plate that the screw blocks, it seems awfully odd.

Ah does seem more likely that its suppose to be a grub screw, so the grub screw would be screwed past the plate that comes down?

Looks like it may have been a shear bolt that you do up and break the head off so it retains the bit as a pin but cannot be removed on the sly.

Im going to try the grub screw first and see if its any good,
I dont really see how it adds any support to the lock if its put past the door frame like this though .. had to choose a door with a dodgey lock aye.
