So a few years ago I got given a Roland PNC-2100 -
I also have the original controller for it, but IIRC it requires Windows 98, and the original Roland software is fairly basic, so I didn't see the point in resurrecting a relic PC to go with it.
However the first problem I came across was the 20-way connector used to connect the engraver to the controller.
Identifying it wasn't that hard (it's a Hirose RP13A-12PS-20SC(71) ), but I struggled to find suitable 20-core cable that would fit in the connector.
I could have cut the cable of the original controller, but I wanted to keep that untouched, as I didn't have any pressing use for the engraver, so it's been sat on a shelf in parts until recently.
I can't remember what I was searching for, but I happened to notice multicore cable on Aliexpress.
A few checks of sizes, and the seemingly perfect cable was found, and a few weeks later a padded envelope arrived with 2M of 20core 26AWG 0.12mm cable.
A few terminals crimped -
A few expletives later said terminals are all inserted-
And eventually the connector is fully assembled -
Now I had suitable cable with connector attached, the project could resume.
