update on my welding ! part 2

so i had a dodgy regulator, so tryed again on some better steel (1.2) with the gas working now quite happy the way they came out > also i did some on the car A POST it was a little harder on the thinner car metal , but i got better in the end , it was blowing through in the odd place but that was on the edges of the plate as i think i put it on the wrond way meaning the edge of the old metal was showing (mistake learnt )

the other thing i was wondering is if everything has to be seem welded or not as i think with the thinness it will be difficult !!

repair panels have to be seam welded.
you can do this by stiching short welds together or overlapping spots.
if you are replacing whole panels you can spot like the original manf.
I've has to do that bit on mine. The sill extension at the front of the footwell had been filled with resin and a bit of fibre. also done the strut top, reinforcing plate and wing rail so far.

I've still to do the wing and edge of the valance and then the other side (same again) then back of the sills and the rear areches are going too. rest of the car is fine though

Yes, the welds need to be continuous, i.e. no holes, but on thin metal it is almost impossible to butt weld two pieces together by running a long bead. Don't try and run long beads or you will blow through.

AS said above, lots of short pulses or overlapping spots will be strong, pass the MOT and look neat if done well.

I will just have to do spot by spot then , and it will eventualy be seemed the floor and the rest should be esay as will be using 1.2 the metal I have been welding here is only 0.9 !!! But I just need practice on actualy joining metal am abit imaptiant realy the only practice I did before jumping straight on the A post was the 3 welds above deep end is my philosophy !
