Unweldable Alloy - informative video

I've not tried welding alloy but it's on my to-do list at some point (for racks, cycles frames, etc).

Some unexpected results in this random video I found, an unknown alloy machines ok (but not quite as expected), shows signs of zinc when welding, and the weld doesn't penetrate at all.

I had a motorcycle case that would not weld, I suspect it might have had a high zinc content. It ended up just going in the scrap pile when I was done trying to weld it. I've welded lots of cast alloy parts successfully but that one beat me.

That tube looks more like 316 stainless to me.
