Unusual Myford Lathe

We're on our travels in the campervan and on Saturday we called in to the Anglesey Transport Museum.
Apart from lots of interesting old cars, motorcycles, military and commercial vehicles on display, this is also the site of their workshops.
In one corner I spotted this Myford lathe. Looks to be still in usable condition.

According to Lathes.co.uk its one of the fairly rare MF series, but with some additions to the apron and an extra leadscrew.

Does anyone know what the extras are for?

I can highly recommend a visit to the museum if you're on the island.

the top one looks like across the bed feed

whilst the lower screw thread is the lathes screw feed

the bottom bar is a knock feed rate via a dog clutch

The round thing is a faceplate - you bolt your part to it instead of using a chuck

Headstock looks similar to the ML4 with a split bearing for adjustment. It was a weak headstock design with one slit in the casting & bearing & one pinch bolt at the front, Years ago i had one & offloaded it to a mate, he pushed it too hard & snapped the front bearing cap right off the headstock. It ended its days as a mooring sinker for a boat in a scottish loch.
