Our regular job at my mine is to change the bowl and mantle of a cone crusher.
The mantle is maganese and to lift out of the crusher to change - we weld mild steel lifting lugs to the mantle and lift out and about 20m high above our plant.
There is no welding proceedure and it is just verbal instruction. We used stainless welding rods in a single vertical up run each side of the lifting lug. Its around 5 tonnes and its crazy to me that there isn't specific welding rods for this job.
Would anyone know if there is any rods specific to weld maganese to mild steel?
Thanks
Travis
