I have to do some maintenance welding in some mc donalds restaurants. Some of the units that need fixing have electrical appliances on.
Will welding affect them at all?
Many thanks to anyone that can help.
I've heard that the HF on a tig will wreck some electrical equipment.
Someone pointed out yesterday that the Tig was making the indicator lights on the control box of the roller shutter door come on.
Still worked later though, or I'd still be in there now!
I am aware of HF destroying sensitive circuits, so I'd be interested in any more answers that follow. (Just so I don't get locked in!)
I'm guessing I should take it as a warning and isolate the roller shutter when using the Tig, so I guess you should turn off & unplug any equipment you can. Assuming that you can turn things off. I'm also guessing that you'll be doing the welding while they're closed?
Hope this helps, probably doesn't though!
All the Best,
CJ
ask the manufactores of the equipment. if it is hard wired in kit it might be hard to totaly isolate it as the earth will still be connected and possibly the N if its 3ph
Its for jobs like this that the lift arc function of tig sets is used for, also very important to keep the return (earth) lead as close as possible to the weld, I do loads of welding on sensitive equipment and never fried anything yet.

if welding any thing related to electrics or got any thing to do with them make sure you isolate them eg cars, machinery, fixed or mobile plant, as part of an induction I attended for a company they explained the concept of a teacle switch system etc, I still have no idea what he meant but apparently prior to welding the previous boilermaker did isolate but didn't know about the treacle systems which supplies a minute amount of power (even when machine is isolated) to maintain computer system integrity. when welding it apparently shorts it all out to $18000 skippy's worth of damage. so make sure you switch them off properly mate still don't know diddly about treacle or electrics for that matter but I know they can be stuffed easily.
Am i right that the HF only interferes with live electrical appliances? Because i've positioned my nice hypertherm plasma directly above my tig but only one or the other is ever plugged in at once and i don't want to damage it!!!
