Hi,
I'm working on the underbody of my car at the moment. When i bought the car 4 years ago I took the car to a local Dinitrol specialist and they coated the car in 4941 underneath. It did have some broken factory underseal but I thought the specialist would solve my problems and I didn't really know much about looking after an older car at the time.
3 years later I noticed the areas where the factory underseal had broken - jacking areas - the Dinitrol had also flaked off leaving surface rust.
I've been busy working away under the car recenlty - wire wheel suspect areas back to metal, 2 coats of epoxy and I am now had the stage where I can start to think about what product to put on top. I've read good things about Raptor but don't really see the point in pulling off the Dinitrol where it has adhered well. So I guess my dilemma is:
- Should I be thinking about pulling off the Dinitrol and reapplying Raptor? I'm pretty sure it has failed becuase the prep wasn't right but have a niggle that it might not be that good of a product because of my experience.
- Can i apply Raptor over the top of Dinitrol? I could patch my worked on areas with Raptor but suspect overspray might not adhere to Dinitrol?
- Is Dinitrol a good product so should I just stick with it and patch up the failed areas?
I am sort of hoping the last option is what's going to be recommended by those in the know. I've been reading more about Dinitrol and it appears just putting 4941 on (this appears to be method used on my car) isn't what they recommend - I should be priming first, they then say to lay a thin layer of their cavity wax and then lay the 4941 on top. Any words of advice here generally and it does seem odd to lay a wax first and then top coat - surely that won't create a tough surface that could withstand a jacking pad for example?
Cheers,
Matt
