Regarding fuel consumption, my SWB Transit camper with a high top on does 34 to the gallon if I don't hammer it too much, about 30-32 at 70 on the motorway. I don't think that too bad, considering its 3 metres high & shaped like a housebrick. Nice to drive, I fitted air spring assisters on the rear, this stopped the body roll as its a bit top heavy due to the units in the high top. Good luck with the search & don't go too big as parking can be a problem with the long ones.

If you decide to go with a Tranny, I can send you the pictures of mine to give you some layout ideas if you want.

Hi cobbler, good MPG that kida, i would be happy with that, just thpough i have doen a few front end replacements on the MK5/6 transits in the past with eager drivers, just never messed with the engiens on any vans, only cars a lot. I was at first wanting the biggest, a XLWB Iveco Daily, also i love the vans and drive great, but no need really for a massive van, and want to tow my small boat aswell, 21 foot of van is a lot really, mwb would do, i just see more room the better, the same with my boats, i have always got the longest i can get, but then i am not driving a boat down a country lane and trying to find where to park it. I have been looking at Jumbo transits, transits seem fair price towards other like Merc and VW for some reason.
I just dont want a clapped out shed but dont mind a bit of work to get it in good order, its the running gear thats the biggest concern, to get a van with good service history is lucky i reckon and then price goes up a fair bit.

don't go too big as parking can be a problem with the long ones.

Nursy and I had a 27 foot motorhome in Canada and even with all their space it was still fun parking it!
We got to one rural campsite and as we rolled around looking for a pitch a coach followed us in: I wondered what a coach tour was doing in a remote campsite but as it passed us I realised it was a motorhome conversion. We got talking to the owners later: it was forty feet long and had every convenience known to man!
