Ultrasonic cleaner

A lot ofthe time I have mine full of water. I then place the item/s in plastic bag, with cleaning agent. Suspended in the water. Keeps the mess down, and you can use flammable liquids

I actually filled my little cleaner with neat acetone once as a test after reading someone recommending it on the net... Sat outside on a extension cable in case it self immoliated. It stank, it didn't get the parts any cleaner and I can't see through the clear plastic lid any more after the heated fumes softened it and turned it opaque. Hand cleaner when i need the abrasive, bit of fairy liquid and hot water out the kettle is the best combo after experimentation with some commercial and homebrew mixtures to use in it.
Sometimes I do the mrs's jewlery in it too, use the same mixture and they come out great and I get brownie points...

I tried cleaning bike chains in mine, that's what I got it for. I put the chain in a milk bottle of petrol and gave
it 40 mins at 40ºC, wasn't a lot better than a few minutes scrubbing the chain in a parts washer.
I always wonder if mine is working proplry. I have never tried the proper cleaner, I use truckwash.
I clean my safety glasses in it;-)

I find some things just won't come clean in the bath. (So I use the Ultrasonic cleaner)

I always get the worst off, and give it a good scrubbing every few minutes, takes time.

I find unless you have a picture of before and after you don't realise how much it has cleaned

I'd have thought good session with a paraffin brush to get the worst of the grunk off it, then finish it off in the ultrasonic bath as long as its not a o ring one. Heavy soiled stuff never comes out great but for tiny orifices and rollers etc (eg right in between the pin and roller of each link) theyre magic. Follow that with a bake in a deep fryer filled with chain bath and your away.
