Ultrasonic Cleaner Medium

Just got one of Biker Bills machines.
What is the best cleaner to use for rusty components.?

For rusty components, I personally wouldn't use the ultrasonic unit.

Electrolysis, else a white vinegar or citric acid soak, (in that order of preference), would be my choices.

Probably make more sense to ask the person that supplied the machine but rusty stuff isn't what id use my ultrasonic cleaner for

ive used citrix acid in my ultrasonic cleaner to good effect on small parts , leave it to soak overnight then run it in the morning to clean the surface off then repeat until rust gone

Ultrasonic is really more for removal of grime and muck not rust.
A citric bath, electrolysis or acid treatment is really what you need for rust.

If anyone has a pressing need for rust, I can heartily recommend seawater.....

I too have used my ultrasonic bath on rust, with a solution of citric acid and a drop of IPA as a wetting agent. Depending on what you're cleaning, probably a good idea to keep an eye on it.

As citric acid will clean rust off in a bowl, does the ultrasonic cleaner add anything? Does it speed things up, for example?

for me it seems to clean the rust off the hard to reach places, plus when you take it out if its running the water hot it drys really quickly and put it straight in dewatering and rust preventing solution

ive used my fathers for stuff with surface rust, and caked on crap, we used carb cleaner to get the crud off and then used cleaning vinegar for anything with excess rust, seemed to work reasonably well but still needed a bit if scrubbing to get it all off

Personally i love citrix acid for getting rid of rust , just been on a major project derusting most of the loose steel in my workshop

This started off at 4m long gradually got smaller now the last few things , this is a snowplow for my garden tractor

5 liters of grape vineger is 2,50 euro's ..cheap as chips.....not so bad on ur chips as the Malt stuff is not available.....
