UK equivelant of US Surplus Centre?

Why can't the UK have shops like this with all the cool things you could ever need to build cool stuff for dirt cheap prices

They do international shipping, I am seriously considering purchasing 550 odd quids worth of hydraulics from them to make a super charged version of this bale accumulator:

And if the shipping is too expensive I have a contact who has a container back from the US every couple of weeks, I may have to see if I can smuggle a parcel in there...

I think if I brought it all in the UK it will cost the best part of 2 grand for a few solenoid valves, a little motor and some cylinders. Anyone know of any cheap places to get hydraulic stuff in the UK?

Yeah, they are great to have. I bought several things from them including a DC geared motor on the wire feeder I built.

I am considering building a log splitter. Will definitely get hydraulics from them.

its called if u have the time and money go to farm sales and bankrupt stock sales autojumbles ect i go to a few .make stupid bids thats what all the tool and machinery dealers do then sell em on ebay twice the price. all the sales i go to u see the same old faces

I go to a few sales, but you seem to spend a lot of time looking at crap that has only been put in the sale as you can't sell it anywhere else!

I have picked up an Oxford welder before at a sale for 8 pounds, spent a few hours painting it and wiping the cables with petrol and sold it on eBay for £175

There used to be quite a few shops round here selling surplus electrical & electronic bits but I think there's been a decline in the number of kids wanting to experiment and build there own stuff.

There's probably health & safety and insurance issues too.

The US military and Government is inefficient on a larger scale than the UK due to the size of the country, so this generates a massive amount of surplus stuff. Shipping cost is the only thing that prevents me indulging at the Surplus Centre , so I would be very interested in sharing that container with you !!

I am genuinely going to look into this if I don't get anywhere in the next few weeks with UK hydraulic suppliers.

The only thing I am slightly hesitant about is the BSP / NPT difference between what is used here and what is common in the US and spares availability etc.

But I think if I keep a stock of NTP - BSP fittings I should be fine. It will still be far cheaper to buy some spares from the US to keep on the shelf.

If I do go ahead with the container idea I will let people on here know, someone else may like something brought back (duty free perhaps )

bsp is compatible with npt upto 1". If that container also goes to the USA there's a few things that I have people in the USA waiting for.

There seems to be varying degrees of dissagreement with the statement about bsp being compatible... but I don't think it will be much of a problem.

I believe the container only goes one way, bringing hot tub parts into this country from the US. I'll find out, theres loads of stuff I want from Surplus Centre now lol.

My other option is my uncle flys for American Airlines, and comes back here pretty often, I think he could put a cylinder or two in his luggage
