Ugga-dugga ugg-off.

Took the VW Fox over to a local garage to have them set about the wheel bolts with a Ugger Bigger.
It took one of those Milwaukee Fuel thingys and two batteries to finally get the remaining tight ones off.
The mechanic was impressed, I could tell.
I was impressed that it could do the job at all, but NO I'm not going to get one.
I now have a torque multiplier kit in the post that might never use, but it's a tool, and needs neither justification nor excuse.
I'll run over the bolts again tomorrow and <shock horreuer> put some lube on them.
Might even spring for some new bolts, as these are now seriously suspect.

I know there are mixed opinions on it but I have always used a small dab of copper grease on the threads of wheel bolts, especially the locking ones. Not a lot, just enough so stop the things rusting in place.
Milwaukee tools are seriously good. Often thought about some myself but too tied in to Makita 18v stuff now.

I've had a cheapie 3/4 torque multiplier kit that I bought for my LDV Convoy (27mm socket size) wheel nuts.
Works really well!

Wondering off subject slightly(as you do on here )
Was having the car serviced at one of the places i do welding for,Mr Snap-on van turns up,out jumps the driver with the latest "look what we've got blah blah blah",non of the mechanics were interested,when he came to me i said "no thanks,i use milwaukee stuff mate,just as good and far cheaper,his face was a picture.
He didnt stay long(10mins) then went

I used a torque multiplier the other day when i needed to tighten a nut on an agricultural mower to 800 ft/lbs.

It worked very well but took a bit of time.

I wish Makita had some of the stuff Milwaukee does, but I use both impacts daily and there's nothing between them tbfh. The makita's are a bit more comfortable and that's about all that's in it.

Just been out to re-set the wheel bolts to make sure they'd be within range of a normal breaker bar or spider.
Even though the lad yesterday was careful to only nip them up just tight enough, a few of them had taken a ferocious grip again, probably the corrosion.
Took them all out, wire brushed and a smear of Nika anti-seize and Bob's yer father's auntie.
I noticed a couple of them were fairly new-ish, so they'd been replaced likely as a result of the Ugga-dugga men in the past.

I always do this, and a bit on the wheel centre if there is no plastic spigot ring.

Doing a wheel change at the side of the road on my wife's car I realised some garages can't be bothered to take the wheels off during servicing, it was properly seized on to the hub..

Latest instalment on the wheels.
I took the car in for wheel balancing and it made a great improvement. There's still a very slight amount of shimmy between 105/110 kph, totally goes away above that, it is a major improvement to what I had before. I suspect the front shocks aren't all that great.
I watched the bloke re-fit the wheels, using a torque wrench. I went for a long way around, about 30 miles on the backroads and motorway.
Following day I had my suspicions that the bolts had probably worked tighter, and so they had. Took a 3' pipe on the 1/2" master bar to crack some of them loose again. One or two came loose with the spider, but not all.
I've ordered a complete set of fresh bolts and just hope that the previous over-tightening hasn't damaged the threads in the hubs.
Bit of a pain in the jacksie, altogether.

I just done one of these for an MOT in my workshop. VW Fox 2008 53k on clock

Both front shocks leaking. Front discs and pads.

Split Vac pipe from manifold to master cylinder - EML on and brake pedal rock hard.

Front axle wheel bolts were super tight as well.

Did note for a small car these got five wheel fixings a side.

A bit unusual for the size of it, but VW using the same floorpan and hubs for a much higher powered version of the Polo would explain that. Probably cheaper to just make all the bits the same and leave some off on the lower spec cars.

I got a small fleet of the Skoda Citigos and VW ups - with 1.0 three cylinder lumps - I use for loaner/courtesy cars.

These a far better proposition - than a Fox.
