Hate say bad things......
we needed 2 more retractable garden hoses.....
Genuine Hozelock's are working out around 200euro's each.....(No other makes I can find short of buying from Temu).....Plus I have to get them shipped from Athens.....
So on offer was the Parkside unit at 65 euros.......said to her just get 1 and we'll try it....
It's now about 2 weeks old and frankly useless.....
It never retracted properly from day 1 and the spring is so strong u need to wrap the hose around ur body to save the stress on ur arms....
And now this...it always dribbled a bit when in use from within the body but no probs......yes it's just a simple O ring thats gone bad......BUT.....
now more water exits the body than the hose....so it's going back....
I would fix it but the body is held together with blind plastic rivets.....!!!!!......be warned.....

I keep seeing them in the center isle like you did, at the moment I just manually wind hoses onto hangers and it would make life easier having something like my barn airhose reel I could wind them back in, or auto retract would be even better.
I have a few of the electrical auto retract reels in the workshop and eventually they all start to fail to retract after a year or two, although they have at least a lock mechanism that stops them autoretracting until you pull them out a little more to defeat it. On them you can take them apart and retension the spring to restore function.

But I also saved the upright, hub and wheel with a tyre from the Astra G I just scrapped with a plan to cut off the bits I dont need and mount it the wall and cut the centre out the tyre leaving the sidewalls to form a hose reel I can crank in manually.
For the rolling water connection I have a brass rolling fitting with o rings that allows 360 rotation that I'll put at the wheel centre and feed in where the driveshaft used to live.
Ive been procrastinating a bit but reading your post, I think its worth the effort to knock it up. Its not like its ever going to wear out the bearing in use as a hose reel hanger then it should just be replace o rings periodically and a new hose when it rots out every few years.

Frank , I don't know the shipping costs ( contact Fizzy on this site perhaps ) ScrewFix aka Kingfisher have a fantastic building site reinforced UV resistant hose . My last one had gone hard after 18 years of permanently being outside on an open hand winder reel .
T'was 50 mtrs. but I kept chopping off short connection lengths for my auto garden watering spray system .

The replacement hose is also from ScrewFix and is the same length again with true Hoselock fittings .

I noticed Temu had similar Hoselock looking fittings , at a fraction of the UK Hoselock price .. So I ordered two bags of pipe connector ferrules and two bags of hose pipe connectors . The plastic is a lighter yellow and not so a hard shiny finish but they measure up well and work well with each other , don't know if they are fully Hoselock compatible.

Can you get ScrewFix or Kingfisher products via the internet in Crete ...most Kingfisher products are made in China,

Instead of a rolling water connection device simply feed the hose via a short jumper pipe with a male fitting at the reels now female connection You might be better off welding or bolting some guide arms windmill style on the wheel rim as cutdown car tyre may well have sharp rusting reinforcing steel wires poking into the side wall area & it will decay in UV light .

We’ve had the hose lock version for about 10 years, maybe more. Still works, expensive but probably worth it for something that lasts. That being said most park side stuff I’ve had has been decent enough.

I've been lucky enough with Parkside tools honestly.
Things I've got and been happy with are
1/2" and 1/4" sockets set Wich is probably the best 40 euro I ever spent.
I've done everything with them
Replaced 2 clutches on my punto
Dismantled my 126p
Tons of maintenance on my punto including the half shafts on this morning
Tons work with them.
I use them with impact drivers too without any problem.
3/8" sockets set too, the set has deeper sockets and hex, torx, M sockets very useful on cars.
1/4" swivel head ratchet and sockets set again very happy with it, I don't use those a lot on cars honestly but I'm trying to keep them clean as I found the set very useful for my airsoft guns replicas.
Open and box end spanners set, those have been my first spanners set and again used a lot on cars and sometimes I prefer them over my Beta and Gedore sets because I can abuse them without feeling guilty, maybe paid them 15ish euro back in 2017
Hammerable screwdrivers set, fell in love with them, durable, precise and my go to for most jobs.
Screwdrivers bits sets got two and extremely happy with them.
What else ahh yes pry bars I've got both regular carpenters ones and mechanics ones very useful.
Files again pretty good for the price
Chisel, punches, drift sets I cannot live without.
About power tools and accessories
I've been seriously impressed with the performance cordless drill I've bought back 2019 but not so much with the green impact as I've managed to make it leave the smoke out of it at first use.
Due to limited availability and the stress involved to get cordless tools and batteries I've switched platform and adopted Makita clones.
Hole saws I've been really happy with them too
But regular drills are just garbage.
I also have a belt sander I don't use much and a threaded inserts riveter somewhere.
Insulated Socket screwdrivers set and electrician knife.
I can't really complain with any of these.
Plus I'm used to buy consumables like zip ties, heat shrink tubing, connectors etc.
Jeans are pretty good but unfortunately I don't find my size and have to fold them and secure them with a belt .
I think I've wrote everything

Thanks for the replies.....
our garden is spread out, not long thin......5,000m2 plus.....idealy we need at least 6-7 auto reels.....
the whole garden has auto irrigation but there's always dead spots and the extra plants she just has to have.....
So in all I would have around 1,200 euros in auto reels eventually....that's why if it worked the Parkside unit would be a bargain...
I'd take a chance on Temu etc if it was easy to return anything bad....
So we will stick with Hozelock.....which I believe is a French firm....

I bought the Gardena one from Costco recently, about 140 and still very good, the retracting mechanism seems pretty solid. Not as cheap as Parkside, but a good middle ground
