Tyre bead breaker (special)

A mate recently bought some new wheels and tyres for his land Rover 90. they are 7.50x16 14ply!!!! and fited with Tyrons http://www.tyron.com/
you need to push one sidewall past the centre well to remove them using this, http://www.tyron.com/images/products/assembly-service.jpg
so I made this.

Nice one Mick , neccessity mother of invention.
Are you going to put some bars on the nut in the centre , to make it a wing nut affair for quicker operation ?.
Better still , a length of pipe welded to the centre nut with a larger nut welded at the other end than the rod so it will clear the thread , then a zip gun can be used to break the tyre off the bead even quicker

Nice one mick, very handy piece of equipment only downside for me making one is that it'll only fit one size of rim but still very useful. well done

14 ply rating doesn't mean it has 14 plies, it's just an indication of the overall strength compared to a tyre using one 'standard' ply. A bit like the traction/treadwear/temperature ratings, a tyre with a treadwear rating of 300 simply means it will last longer than one of 200, theoretically 1.5 times as long.

Take a look at the sidewall of a tyre to find out what's in it, it'll say something like 'two plies rayon, two plies steel, two plies nylon' on one of those 750-16's.
(I make tyres by the way )

Nice work on the bead breaker, crude but very effective.
