Twin needle sewing machine

A question for @mrsbruce and other sewing machine users.
I'd like to use a twin needle attachment on a sewing machine. My late mother's Jones sewing machine, circa 1965, isn't suitable.
Will any machine that can do zig-zag stitching be suitable?
Do you need twin bobbins? Or does the zig-zag get around that?

This seems to cover it, I've got quite a few old rescued singer machines I've got going over the years, but not heard of twin needles so I had a quick look! HTH

I’ve never used a twin needle, but I think any machine that has can do straight and zigzag stitching, can do twin needles. There are 2 threads up top, following the same path (use both spool pins), and the one lower bobbin.

Make sure you‘ve fitted the zigzag needle plate, the right presser foot, and the machine is set on straight stitch. You’ll probably need to loosen the top tension, and hand turn the wheel to start with. You don’t want to crash those needles.

If you don’t have the handbook for your machine, there are plenty of sites which will calculate which twin needles you need for your machine (if I remember, it’s based on the stitch length).
