Hi i have a twin gauge regulator but not sure if its the sort i was after one gauge goes to 400 bar the other to 16 bar obviously the first is the bottle pressure and the second is the outlet pressure so can i set this so i am getting 10 lpm or do i need a different regulator, thanks.

You will need to add a flowmeter or get a reg with an orifice installed and a pressure gauge calibrated in LPM.

Is it not possible to calculate from the output pressure what the flowrate is as surely the valve itself is doing the same thing allowing more or less through?

If you install an orifice. If I remember right a 0.029" orifice as 10LPM at 25 PSI.

The only place I have seen an orifice is when it is already installed in the reg.

Stewart what you have is suffice, as you said, one part of gauge reads high pressure content, other part of gauge reads working pressure (flow rate) screw in or out the large knob like device on gauge centre until you reach the required working pressure...............

PSI to L/M

Hi, My CO2 regulator outlet is in PSI. I have Googled for hours searching for a table that gives air pressure/ pipe dia/ Litres/Min but I can't find one. I'm Sure that this could be calculated quite simply but I can't find the formula. shenion comes close to it....can anyone expand on it? I would be grateful for any help.

It is not as simple as a table, you would need to factor in the particular pressure drop over each restriction to flow.

Also, the regs I have are nowhere near accurate enough to set the flow like this, they seem to act with marked steps of a couple of psi each, and the backpressure after the flowmeter seems tiny.

You can use a bucket of water and a measuring jug (usual warnings about water and electricity apply, use a hose over the end of torch) to gauge a flow, and experiment with jet sizes.
Or maybe set the pressure as low as it can go, and use a clamp over the tube from reg to welder.

But I think I would just buy a flow meter and spend time practicing welding rather than messing around and wasting gas.



Edit: To install a jet in a reg, you would tap the exit hole in a suitable thread, then drill a brass grub screw with a gas drill.

I've got a similar twin gauge regulator marked in bar so I use a peashooter type flowmeter at the torch to measure flow rate. That way I don't need to worry about what the outlet pressure needs to be set at for a particular flow rate.

It would appear that it is as simple as a Table: www.lenoxlaser.com/calculator/orifice.asp. Certainly simpler than using a bucket of water and a measuring jug....??
