I don't disagree but, for the money and hassle, I now think that last year's bargain (the raspberry pi and kodi, xbmc, raspbmc, etc) is now clumsy, slow and even expensive compared to apple-tv, chromecast or the firestick.

Other opinions exist, your mileage may vary, objects are closer than they appear in the mirror, etc

but can you get the same content on the apple-tv, chromecast or firestick ? I have a roku box too, but never found much on it.

Showbox is another thing i use, but not much as i like older flicks.

Did you go into the list of video add-on's ? I am sure there are some in there, never looked myself as i don't need them in kodi.

You won't, without a digital receiver. Terrestrial signals were turned off a while back, and the majority of receivers from < 2015 won't receive / present the digital signals.

I mean BBC 1 BBc 2 and ITV etc etc . Not the old analogue signal but digital
through a Kodi box.

Yeah but there is so much crap I cant locate them I can find king kong meets show white but I dont want that. lol Kids cartoons are plentiful but where my kodi box is located I would like ITV etc so I can cook and watch TV but not miss out on story lines and have to watch the next 45 mins not knowing what the hell is going on while eating it etc.

Ive cancelled my purchase of the Applve TV thing as im now really confused.

Let me start again, I have TV with far too many sockets, My internet speed in the village is quite rubbish. With PlusNet the fastest I ever get is 6MB. I have a sky TV subscription that costs far too much money!!

I just need something that will allow me to stream content from the iPad direct to the TV

Is this possible without being baffled by the tech ??

Sorry, Parm! Yes it is. The easiest would be apple tv but, if that's all you want it for then £60 seems a bit steep.
Next easiest would be an amazon firestick at £35 plus an airplay app for £3-£4 (you can install it directly from the firestick menu).

Other options are available, but they are admittedly more "homebrew" requiring a varying investment in learning how it works, installing software, etc.

So my recommendation is to narrow it to one of these two. I can help you get the firestick set up, if that's of any use.

The whole point of recommending the Aplle TV is that, like your other Apple products, it just works. No complication and does what you need. It is always possible to do things on the cheap if you are an enthusiast or plain mean. Horses for courses.

Chromecast couldn't be easier to set up. Well it could, but then it would be called a toaster.

Thanks guys all help muchly recieved but I'm still none the wiser as to what I should get, so an executive decision has just been made, Stella and Gordon helped quite a bit. A new telly is gonna be purchased, the Internet tells me that a smart TV is gonna do all that I need

I shall be in touch soon asking some one to tell me how it all works, it would seem that gone are the days when you pressed a button and fell asleep In front of a wooden box that displayed a picture and made some noise !!!

If you want mirroring, I think you are still at square one with a requirement for an Apple TV box. Otherwise, yes the TV will cover the other functions.
