Hi, Can someone explain the use of different wire that is stated in the tutorials. I'm a bit confused. I am running .6mm good quality wire (CIG & expensive) in 5kg spools and am wondering if I should get some other type. I am teaching myself so I can complete another project car and not pay some one else exorbitant amounts plus the fact that I get a buzz out of DIY.

0.6mm is good on metal up to about 2.5mm thick. Above that, the wire feed gets real fast and there tends to be spatter.

0.8mm works well for steel over 1mm up to about 8mm. It tends to be a bit cheaper per roll.

I use 0.8mm or 0.9mm on everything over 1.5mm; 0.6mm for thin stuff.
