turboing a 145ED

was using the above welder last week and althou it done not too bad it was frustrating having to wait for it to cool down. last night I added two axial flow fans one side and cut out exra air vents on the other to create flow across the transformer. won't get a chance to try it till weekend :-( can anyone give me a rough idea of the percentage duty increase I could get

heya,

that all depends on the CFM throughput an the ambient tempreture of the passing atmosphere over the components inside the wedler.

I've two turbo jet engine like fans one a S+P TD500s the other a TT copy with some fan speed controllers from another past project I would say a box fan is better an quiter if your after that, Axial based toilet fans can be noisey an a bit weak.

fantronix.com is a nice local place for me to buy this type of equipment, their awesome!

I'm no expert though.

Dont know the cfm, will have to check. But its not a bathroom type, we use them i refrigeration bu they are very common fans and used everywhere. I will try and dig the specs out. It has to be better than what was there before, which was nothing.

My plan of action is to use 2 x 120mm computer fans on my Sealey Migmate, running from a 12v transformer. they can be had for next to nothing on eBay, and are probably safer as well due to the low voltage.

I replaced the fan motor on my sip with one like that as the sip one was going on me wick rattling all the time, cant say if it made a difference to the duty cycle though, after all it is a sip. The only thing that would be of concern to me would be too much airflow would suck more grinding dust etc in, unless you filter it of course.

Just make sure you are cooling the hot bits & not just the sensor.

I did this to an old Sip Autoplus 120. It did increase the time to cut off & reduced the recovery time but if doing a full days fettling as the day went on the recovery took longer & longer so I think I was cooling the sensor more than the transformer to some degree.
