Turbo manifold

Ok so I have done a bit of research into materials to muse and willing to use 321 stainless to do so.

But also looking into mild steel also for cost more than anything. But is use maybe thick wall fitting etc for it?

Anybody see any issues or know where 321 is best to buy in the uk?

321 is a relatively rare beast and is as much about weight saving when cost isn't an issue as anything i.e. 16swg turbo manifold instead of the more usual sch 10 (or thicker) 304/316/mild steel and/or as light as 20swg 321 where 16swg 304/316 would be used. Places like Good Fabs that make exhaust systems for world class motorsport often have to manufacture 321 stainless (and inconel) tube from sheet themselves...

Think I'd be better using a thicker 316 or mild steel then chap?

Only looking at 300bhp just want it to take the heat if you know what i mean.

I presume you are going to tig this manifold?


Good die grind inside after its welded, make 100% sure there is no dropped weld etc in there.

Learned the hard way after a cheap mig manifold.....destroyed a kkk26 hybrid.

Yeah il tig it mate. If its stainless il back purge it but also even if mild steel I'd tig it. Something that intricate and small is never mig anyway bud if I'm honest. The welding isn't my issue as I'm a welder by trade, just the material choice is at the min.

What's it going on and what size turbo? Mine is made from 316 dairy pipe and it's holding up a GT30R. I have used the exhaust to support it somewhat though. The one before holding a GT28R was also 38mm dairy pipe, also still going strong.

Definately purge it or be prepared to do a couple of hours work with the dynafile.

316L is most likely the way to go i would think.
