Tungsten problems!

I've been welding aluminium on and off for about a year, but today had a cylinder head in for repair, vehicle had suffered damage within the combustion chamber from pre ignition.
To weld this material due to the size and density of the casting I'm having to weld at 150A and pre heating the material but the tungsten at this ampage is just melting away within a minute!

Any suggestions peoples?

You did not say what size and type of tungsten you were using, I'd say use a bigger one. Also might help to know what type of welder you are using to know if it has things like AC balance.

at a guess i would say get a bigger tungsten

as said need to know more but at that amperage you want a 2.4 tungsten.

I'm using 1.6mm tungsten white type for aluminium and using a parweld xti 200

I have larger tungsten would you advise using these?

Yes,120 is maxed out for AC, a bit more for DC using an air cooled torch. Go to 2.4 and just take the edge off the end.
