Yeah that was annoyed me about the double ender as well. I also put it through the front. Takes aaaaages to wind the cap out on my cheaper bodies.

125mm diamond cut off wheel from Ebay, with adapter to fit cheap bench grinder, and a collet type holder to put tungstens into while being ground, seems to work pretty well, and total cost less than £100. The wheels are only £5-6, and seem to last pretty well, as I have been using the same one for nearly a year now.

I only grind one end, so I always know what dopant it has, and I never bother taking the back cap off, but I didn't think of chamfering the back end, I'll have to do that tomorrow.

I also put it through the front.

Yeah I've always done it tiny chamfer makes the world of difference. The ck collets are very snug and don't spread easy so this saves messing about.

Richard have you tried the angled collet instead of the split type, they are loads better

Just use the blue lanthanated and they will do anything, keep the tip better too.

So much easier to get the tungsten back into, I was talking to a guy new to tig a couple of weeks ago and he said it's a pain having to keep removing the back cap to get the tungsten out, when I told him he laughed

It's not really a pain, I like the ck split collets. I've always chamfered the back of my electrodes even with the angled collets. It's just habit. But it works.

If you grind both ends off thoriated tungstens there is a way to tell which ones they are, but it takes a while....

I only use blue tips (lanthanated or HFMS, I can't remember which is darker blue) but they're in a box with some red and grey (that aren't ever used) and I need to those apart.

2% lanth are a darker blue hfms are lighter green/blue.
