Not a tumble composter but..., been building a compost enclosure this last couple of days, inbetween other tasks. The timber is just a load of old timber, (fencing), which had lain on the gravel for yonks. Thought I'd kill three birds with one stone.
1) Saves binning the leaves from sweeping up, weeds from gardening etc.
2) Gets rid of most of that pile of old wood.
3) Gives me something useful to put on the garden. (I can bet everyone else will be dipping in there for their own use when it starts turning too ).
Just need to make either a flap or some doors for the front. Not decided whether I'm going to put a cover over the top or not as yet. May put another length along the bottom too, just to raise the front height a little more.
Placed the lengths atop each other loosely, to leave some slight air gaps. Didn't leave any notable gaps though, as I want it kept contained, and not spilling out. That's also why the opening is facing the garden, (even though it restricts access slightly), so as to make sure any spillage is going where it won't make a mess. There's no bottom on it, so the worms and such have easy access, and can have a field day.
Although this was a pet project rather than a request, the main criteria were trying to make a usable composter which doesn't look unsightly, or out of place, whilst also keeping any mess contained & minimal. I'll know whether the latter criteria have been met by whether I get any earache from the ladies or not. It's a free-standing enclosure, hence the top tie/brace on the front.
On a tangent, why does Creocote smell like used engine oil?
