Tube supplier

I'm after some weldable mild steel round tube with a 8 to 9mm bore (or close to) and a wall thickness of 2mm minimum. I've asked my usual metal suppliers, who can't help. Does such a thing exist , or have I got 32 spacers to make on the lathe? Any suggestions appreciated.

3/8" tube would be the nearest which is 10mm.
1/4" tube will be 6mm.

Is tube normally specified using the o/d? I never remember. If so what I'm after would probably need to be in the range 12 to 15mm o/d ( ~ 1/2 to 5/8 " ) with a 2 to 3mm wall ( 12 swg or 14 swg ). I can find tube with that o/d, but not the wall thickness.

I've got some 12mm OD 1.5mm wall. I can't remember if that's classed as circular hollow section or ERW tube. That's the nearest I could find for the application i was working on at the time.

Hydraulic pipe would be ideal, 1/2" x 0.083"

Wouldn't that make the i.d. 6mm? They do it in 12mm o.d. too which would give you 8mm i.d.

Yup your right, must try not to eat and post at the same time, anyway they do loads of different sizes all here.

Thanks guys, it sounds like the hydraulic pipe's what I need then. Pity the 12mm pipe from RS is only available in packs of 3 x 2m - Don't want to be paying £37 for 6 metres when I only need a couple of foot. I'll have a look in the yellow pages to see if there's are any hydraulics companies near by.

You might think about putting the job out. On the right machine its 2 hours work max out of solid bar. Sounds like they are short spacers quick an easy job.
By rights it would typically cost time wise and material wise a similar price as you would have to pay for a small min quantity of material.

Result - called in to a place on the way home and was given an offcut of pipe which will be suitable, a little over 14mm diameter and wall thickness just less than 3mm.

Scott yes they are small spacers. I would have machined them myself if I couldn't find suitable tube. I was just trying to save a bit (actual probably a lot) of time.
