Tube/Pipe Bending, again Sorry

Sorry for posting the 17millionth post about pipe bending but I do need some help, some may say therapy.

I have an old triumph which I attempt to race. The current problem is ground clearence, I havent managed to get them far enough under the motor, the pipe on the primary side digs in very badly and almost proved catastrophic last weekend.

I want to bend up some pipes similar to those on Slippery Sam which tuck under the motor.

The pipes are 1 1/4'' od and have a thin wall. I wondered if something like a plumbers pipe bender would do the trick, any advice?

What's thin wall? 16swg/1.5mm, 18swg? Centre line radius is pretty much a fixed thing with tube bending kit. Have you had a play with some card templates/bits of vacuum cleaner hose and wire to see what you actually need (radius wise) to tuck the pipes tightly around the motor?

Where are you? I have a pipe bender (with my own dies) that bends 16ga wall (1.6mm) 1 1/4" tube pretty well on IIRC a 4.5" centre line radius. I've only done it on mild steel, not sure how it would do on 304 stainless. If you already have a plumbing bender I could possibly do you a die and follower set.

Your other option is to buy preformed bends and weld up the exhaust assembly as a cut N shut job.

if big pete cant help couldnt you run them along the underside of the tank like the triumph scramblers?
As in basically turning your header pipe upside down?

I'd just use sand, if your nowhere near anyone with a bender you only need a propane torch its not as fast as oxy/acetylene but an exhaust wouldn't take long to warm up.

Why not ditch the downpipe and have one that appears either side of the cylinder head in a 180 bend, and straightline the pipe to the silencer but mounted high up.

Like the Harley flat track bikes have ?

Norman Hyde sell hi-level street scrambler style pipes.

Change the ride hight slightly, do a 2-1 with the silencer under in the centre just like a Buell but you could use a classic chrome silencer to keep it looking period.
