The offside front and centre outriggers on my Herald chassis have not be correctly fitted. The outboard edge of the front outrigger needs to be raised by about 25mm.

So my plan is to cut the outriggers as shown by the red lines, leave the top face uncut and then lift the outboard ends to the correct height and then weld-up the cuts.



I am assuming that each of the cuts will only open by 5 to 10mm max so what would be the best way to weld them back up? Should I cut out a bigger area so that I can then weld a large patch back into place. Or do I just use a sliver of new metal to fill the 10mm max gap?

Personally I would fit a sleeve spreading at least an inch in each direction inside each section that you cut. I would then plug weld through the original chassis and into the sleeve as well as seam welding the original cut which may need a few passes depending on how much it opens up by.

Them out riggers are quite hard to get wrong by that amount.
Double check its not a combination of both sides thats the problem.

Before you start cutting, set the main two chassis rails up dead stright.
Get a spirit level on just the two main chassis rails. Get the chassis spot on level.
Then check the outfiggers.

If it is only one side, cut it out as per original and start again.
It's the better way to do it in the long run.

I have both the gt6 and a spitfire so I speak from experience.

Agreed, it involves more work but it will be done right and thats what you want. Its so easy to say thats close enough but you really want it done right in the first place.
