Hi,
I had one that colour and the guys at work used to pull my leg a bit...
one of the things they stated was that it was obviously re-sprayed as it's not a standard colour.
It's nice to see another one similar. Makes me think they were wrong!
I sold it when we had our second child and we started having camping holidays as we needed something bigger. We went on to Cortina estates after that.

I did a moggie van into a pickup years ago.
I cut down the swage line where your wood line is, rolled the top lip over by about 30mm and made flat inner panels from steels sheet. Also made some massive wheel tubs and welded them to the inner and outer panels.
Decked it in some walnut style panels and fitted a grp cab back panel, which cost a fortune back then and fitted really badly. Did a marina disc brake conversion and a few other bits and bobs too.

Invacar? God, i remember seeing loads of them about when I was a kid.
Nothing said 'look at me, I'm disabled' quite like one of those.

Guess they were all scrapped because they were owned by the government so couldn't possibly be sold on. But why they became illegal to drive at the same time is a mystery. Could they be so much more dangerous than other cars that we are still allowed to drive?

Hi,
possibly the 80+mph in a vehicle that a decent gust of wind (anything over a sneeze) woudl blow off the road....
I recall may years ago being overtaken by a Bond Bug doing something over 70 mph and it was bouncing all over the road.
A mate at work had an Issetta (not sure of the spelling). He bought it as a restoration project in 1972 for about £50 and after a bit of a clean-up he was offered £600 for it. I have no idea what one would be worth now.

anyone no if it needs any extra strengthening and where, not really got any response from the morri site
I don't *know* if it was needed but my van was in really bad shape to start with, so I had to do something to try and restore some structural strength so I added a huge box section crossmember across the rear of the cabin to pick up onto the bottom of the B pillars which had a bridge in for the proposhaft itself, and box section tube in place of the sills (they were rotted away and it was easier to just do that), I tied these into the chassis and added a smaller diamater tube steel front frame to pin my flip front to, which tied all the front suspension mounts into it too.
At the rear I added another crossmember, and ran two smaller tubes forward above the height of the chassis into the steel crossmember area. I formed the sides into box section profile and welded them to the inner wings, and that added a huge amount of rigidity to things.
It was all a long time ago though. I had idea's involving large v8's so was preparing it with that in mind, then sold it due to poverty and loss of garage...
If you strengthen it to bits, its still going to have those crappy alloy nut kingpin joints, so probably not worth going overboard unless the front suspension is bin bound too

ta, *had rotted*
making a complete rear cab section from sratch and extending the cab area by about 5". i was thinking about adding some top hat section between the 'b' pillers across the rear cab to help strengthen/tie together the structure.

Cool project, i've seen this done very badly using a trav before, but it's real nice to see your doing this properly and making a proper looking pickup rear end, should be real smart when finished, I like it. I've owned, restored and modified moggies for the past 10 years now. The van / pickup moggies have a separate chassis that gives all the strength, the cars do not. The thing with the traveller is the wood is actually structural so you will need to put in some more strength. How about running some 1.5" or 2" box iron from the centre cross member to the rear end as there is nothing there normally. Then you can do some triangulation from as high as poss on the B pillar picking up the new chassis rails, this will give the strength back you loose by not having the wood. I sold my pickup as the cab was so cramped, The trav has bigger doors anyway (being based on the 2dr model, LCV's are based on the 4dr model) plus your cab extension will make it much nicer to drive.

moggieman how far into the wheel arches do the rear wheels travel?
Depends if you plan on lowering the ride hight? Not advised in my experiance, been there done that, raised it again.
Also depends on the weight difference between the original traveller and the new back end. Quite a lot of travel though.
Are you asking to know what hight to put different inner arches?
I can measure the distance between the bumpstop and body to give intended travel distance on my traveller and van tomorow if you like?

in a word yes. bump stop allows about 5" travel but inner traveller arches are to the hieght of the outer arches.
have cut one side of flat side sheet to outer hieght but it just looks too high, so i'm going to try to be a bit arty with the inner arch panels to try and reduce the height look.
