Wonder how much it cost, and do you find it more effective than a simple impact driver for screws and torx fasteners?

I think it was £119 or something like that from Snap On man. I've only had it a couple of weeks, not tried on a transmission pan and I haven't enough chance to try it in many situations. The beauty is you can put some vibration into the fixing before trying to turn it.

In the realms of Snap On kit, as a specialist product I didn't think the price was too bad. I had actually been looking at making something similar by welding a nut on the shaft of an air hammer bit and put a 3/8 square on the end.

For Torx bit you would need to get bits suitable for impact as air hammers can be deceptively destructive

I too am a big fan of the old fashioned impact driver.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw the video.

I already tried a torx in an air impact wrench, it instantly spun the internal splines out of the screw, one of the 6 screws which is already totally screwed. For these 6 at least I will need to weld on a nut.

I will also try putting in a notch then hitting with a chisel.

Ebay has one of the snap on vibro tools for ~£66 but shipping from the US is a pain.

Just go buy a decent impact T27 bit and use an impact driver.
They'll shift after a couple of cracks.
If it's a steel bolt running through an ally housing into an ally thread then adding heat usually worsens the threads and they generally pull out, that's my experience anyway. Most off the components on trucks are made of ally and use steel bolts, they always seize in.

Who do you recommend as decent quality? I though Teng were good.

its not a new idea , but the special sockets are ....if you google screw knocker theres plenty , would a normal 1/2" extension bar weld alright ? im thinking no ?

Teng tools are made of toffee!!
They are quite a bit cheaper than snap on and mac tools for a reason but you can buy a new impact proof bit and knock it into your teng socket.
These days I would look at mac tools as I've had quite a bit of breakage with snap on over the last 5 years, the quality has gone from snap on.

I have a Mac T27.
It has been abused, some say raped and still goes strong.

I have had no joy with snap on tools, other than sockets or spanners.

I'm normally a fan of snap on tools but I've found that if you're using an impact driver (hammer type) then the sealey sets are better as they seem harder.The set I'm on about is the one where you get all the individual bits and a 1/2 inch and 3/8 inch adaptor.

Yes, I have one of these but no T27 in the set.

The car is getting an MOT on Monday and I know they use MAC tools there so I will ask them to order me up one.
