vima, thats looking good, that keyhole shot, seeing it first i thought it looked like you hadn,t ground deep enough. my approach would have the first 5mm or so ground till blue, this is wafer thin and you will open a fresh keyhole behind the old one, trick is to slow up slightly till past the old one. f/j
As f/j has stated, a good grind back, slow restart, I personally tend to push rod through with a little more force at restart points, does vary from welder to welder tho............
thanks guys, i never worked as a welder, i ve just finished my one month education and it was very short - it was 120 hours, so i decided to buy an inverter and start training at home. I hope i can find a job sooner and become a little as good as you guys, your welds are great.
your root gap looks a bit on the wide side.. i would give it a 3mm gap are you rooting on electrode negative? if not you want to be. when rooting push your rod in a fair bit to get the penetration. as for start stops like every1 else has said thin them right out and make sure you push the rod in. when you cap try to give yourself a 1-2mm recess before you start that way you can see where your capping it will end up alot neater. if your using 2.5s root around 65-70A fill out at baout 80A and cap around 70 hope this helps
