Trailer refresh, what thickness checker plate to use?

My trailer signalled it's last this weekend when I transported a one metre square BBQ in it which had four 25mm square tube legs, two of which punched their way through the obviously life-expired 12mm plywood base.
If I can get the bits at the right price I'd like to replace said knackered timber with ali checker plate, but what thickness do those who've already done it think will suit? I'd like to think the thicker the better but I am aware also that despite it being ali there is a weight penalty as the thickness increases.
Any help/advice on this subject gratefully received

I think ifor use 1.5mm but that's on top of wood

I use Phenolic impregnated 20mm ply for my trailer floor, it's what they use for floors in some trucks. Same floor for last 15 years approx. Sits outside 24/7 365 days a year. A bit worn on the edge by the tailgate but still as strong as ever.
I think I paid £20 for an 8 by 4 sheet.

that would cost between £60-100 these days!!! unless you know a bloke that has a lorry with a "faulty back door" that allows things to "fall off"

I think checkerplate is very expensive..at least it is here in the states....

My pressure treated plywood floor in my utility trailer is holding up great....10 years now and still pretty solid...I do stain it every year......
