normaly cable same on caravans works on over run. unless its an artic trailerHi,
Can anyone explain the fundermental principle behind the trailer braking system. I've tried searching the net without success.
I cant work out if trailer brakes use a cable to brake the rear wheels or is it a fluid?
Thanks in advance.
Andrew
There are different rules for new trailers and repairs/replacement on old trailers.
New trailers require damped couplings and brakes that don't apply when reversing.
It will work out simpler and cheaper to repair an old trailer.
You also need to provide compensation, so that both brakes apply evenly. It's a lot easier to do this with cable brakes.
I got a trailer off Freecycle, so far I've made a new box, re-welded the chassis, replaced the hitch and am about to fit new suspension units, hubs and wheels.
Still, it's been repaired so it's still an old trailer!
