I've not done one myself but have helped someone get his own Trademark, Basically it was his company name that he wanted to Protect, He Had a product which he wanted to call The ********* Ramp
The stars are what his company was called. I got him to register direct with the Intellectual property office http://www.ipo.gov.uk/tm.htm
Never go with one of those agents you see on the net, as you'll always pay over the odds for something you can do yourself
You can do your IP Heathcheck
