trade test??

hi,

was thinking of doing a course in welding at my local college

in the link, it mentions that i have to pass a "trade test" to get into the course, i was wondering if you guru's could tell me what this trade test entails, i got some minor welding experience in MIG welding when i was in the first year of college and that was 3 years ago

I always thought a trade test was a test done to weed out chancers. IE: on many building sites the forman will ask a new bricky to build four or five courses and see how long it takes to do. Or ask a new joiner to knock up a little something from a blueprint. So i assume it something similar for welding, such as welding together a few pieces of metal with different joints. Done with MMA/TIG/Arc/Oxy. As long as you are reasonably competant you should be alright, im sure they are not expecting fault free welding.

Now this is just a guess, best way is to ring the college and ask them. A chat with the course tutor would be favourite on my list. They are not trying to trip anyone up, rather not waste your time or theirs.

That sounds like a very good course i hope you get on it. wish there was one like that near me in Cheshire. It would be a perfect follow on from my level 1 & 2 City & guilds courses.

Quite right. As MK says, its what they chose to make it. A call to the tutor is called for here, thats all.

we use them to try and remove the WL (window licker's) from the course we get no say on full time but try to keep them off part time
