On the track rod ends bit if you get a non nyloc nut and run it down first to lock the taper then take it off and fit the nyloc it works as well.

Thanks to all who helped today. My track rods are on and the radio cd is working fine now. I think it was just a dodgy connection on the bit you pull out (anti theft thing) as when I pressed it the display went on and off. but its ok now thanks.

The bonus ball is I found my long lost Gang of Four CD inside the radio/CD player which I haven't seen in the three years the car has been SORN'D For a bass player like myself, this is one of the all time great LPs. Cheers !

I think I understand what you mean here. Can you clarify it a little to help a cloth head (me)

A plain nut won't have the "drag" of a nyloc so the shaft won't spin as you run it down, use it to pull the taper up until it locks/jams then replace it with the nyloc, does that make sense?

That's it, the locking part of the nyloc is what turns the taper so the plain nut doesn't have the same problem. It works when you are not in a position to lock it with a jack or something similar due to lack of space.
