Toyota Hilux, run lock

My new work truck has this feature. Other folk asked for it so all the new trucks are getting it. I think mine is faulty, if I have the engine running and press the run lock button, I can remove the key and the engine keeps running. What I can’t do is lock the doors.The truck is safe, you put it in gear and the engine dies. Am I being thick and the lock part of the name is for something else and not the doors? If it’s for something else, I can’t see the point of it. Google brings up the start/ stop feature

When we used to do the cop cars thats all the run lock did, kept the engine going unless the brake/clutch was pressed, didnt do anything with the doors

The idea is the battery doesnt go flat when its all lit up while they are stationary chasing the scallywags on foot

I wonder if it's for a truck with a service body like a bucket or something where the PTO is powering a hydraulic pump.

Found a bit online, the doors are meant to lock. The guys wanted it for the reasons you say to keep the battery powered and the cab warm and leave gear in a safe place.

The engine running normally inhibits the remote door locking, but you should be able to lock it manually with the key.
