Toughened Glass Window

I managed to break the rear window on my John Deere tractor at the weekend. I reversed into a tree branch which smashed the trapezoid shaped window.
An off the shelf replacement is the ridiculous price of £300 plus for a toughened pane of flat glass approximately 750mm square by 5mm thick.
Can I just go to a glazers with a template and get them to cut a piece of glass to match and get them to send it away to be toughened or is automotive toughened glass different?
The reason I ask is a couple of years ago I got a quote to have 3 arched top oak framed lounge doors glazed with toughened glass and I am sure it was about £180 for 3 panes 1800mm by 450mm.
In the end, because of time constraints on the doors, I went for laminated glass which also worked out cheaper but if I can get the tractor window for less than £100 I will be happy otherwise it's a piece of polythene!

get laminated if its flat. why pay more for toughened theres no safety issues using both types. any local glass merchants will cut u one just make a cardboard template up if the edges are rounded

Any decent glazing company can cut you a window from a template in laminated glass,or you can have it made in toughened glass but would take a couple of days turnaround

Oh and toughened glass is toughened glass nothing more or less, it's all the same, although automotive glass is etched with some BS numbers etc

They do ive built a few hifi cabinets using T/Glass fronts.It was cheap. Hence the post above this

auto glass is tested to bs 857 either toughened or laminate its not going to be stamped on large stock sheets though from a known supplier

If its a fixed piece of glass then laminated will be ok,
if its door glass for example then with constant door slamming the laminated may crack, toughened is better there.

A friend of mine had a side window made for his Land Rover at a local glass place and it came tempered and etched with the BS kite mark for about a third of the dealer price.

I got a new back window for my tractor cut from laminated glass at the local glaziers, about 800mm square with large rounded corners, £60.
