Tools?

Im just about to start welding for the first time in order to sort my restoration project.

Ive got the machine and am sorting a lid but can anyone tell me what else I need to tackle car bodywork?

I see stuff like c clamps etc but have no idea if I need them or how to use them?

You`d need clamps(other than C clamps), hammers and dollies, some form of folding machine (the edge of a bench will do) and lots of imagination. One thing you will find handy is a camera, take lots and lots of pics of all areas to be worked on as you tear them down, it will give you a good reference for when you start fitting your new parts. Get all the information you can on your model vehicle, make sure you know what thickness steel you will need for what parts (no good using 1.6mm when you need 3mm).
Start slowly and you`ll get one or two of this or that each time and soon you`ll be looking for more storage space.

Angle grinder with discs and flap wheels...Vice of some sort, any is better than none, then pick up a decent s/h one as you go along...Study panel making and bodywork repair, get a few essential tools to start, hammer and dollies, etc, pick up others as they become necessary, you don't need a lot of kit, imagination is essential as already pointed out, and a bit of ingenuity for making home-made tools to suit particular little jobs...

Tin snips, scribes and an engineers ruler. Cold chisels & punches. (siegen do a great little set in a pouch for about £12)

A basic sheet folder can be made with a big vice and 2 peices of angle.

You can get by for the most part with basic vise-grips, so don't spent a fortune on clamps unless you need them, but never buy cheapo ones, they break. A couple of sets of cheap g clamps never go a miss though.

you can get very thin cutting discs that are awesome for fine work.

decent stereo, kettle,
Oh and maybe some tools.
Range of hammers, loads of clamps, box of rags.
For cutting sheet steel one of these is useful.

A disc cutter from machine mart, not too pricey I think about £30.00
