i really want to change my toolpost that i currently have
to the piston type that has two positions.


my current one is ok , QCT4 set

but when you want to go from turning to boring.
you have to turn it 90* and it doesn't seem high enough.
as you cant use the fine adjustments on the holders.
they are fully adjusted down, yet the tool is below centre.

i snap some pics tomorrow. and get some sizes.

this is the tool put in the post, and the adjuster is fully down


this shows how far off centre the tool is.
(had to revert back to the brazed tip parting tool
due to snapping other tool yesturday)


this shows how far up the holder needs to be, for tool to be centre height.

Put a spacer underneath the tool in the tool holder

Or screw a spacer to the bottom of the tool post with countersunk screws, so that the holder is in the centre of its travel with an average tool fitted.

i did think about getting a friend to get me a 8mm thick sq plate cut on laser machine at his work.
to raise the tool post up. but it still only has 1 place to put a holder.

unlike these type of ones. that have two...

one for facing and quick change of holder to do boring without having to set the post up.

I fitted one to my Boxford after seeing JohnDB using one. Definitely the way to go.

Once you get it set and you have a few holders then you only really need 1 slot imho...i have a holder with 3 but only keep dropping my holders into the same single slot. Save the wonga and get a lifting plate under the tool post would be my road..

The one on the Harrison is a wedge type
One of my you tube viewers donated it to me
It is Oriental but decent quality
The tool holders are not to bad to make

I fitted a Chronos piston type one to my 9x20 last week - really chuffed with it, and I'd recommend it to anybody. It has made swapping tools so much easier and quicker. Definitely money well spent!
